“Fiction Plane’s debut features some of the most irresistible melodies and smart lyrics from a new band.”
- New York Daily News
Fiction Plane is a North London band which began its career in America. The band signed to MCA and began a nine month live tour to promote their prophetically named debut album ‘Everything Will Never Be OK’. Their Pavement and Jesus Lizard influences were received to rapturous effect. They were doing everything they had always wanted to do, and were on the biggest high of their lives. No complaints. The week before their first single ‘Hate’ was released, MCA was swallowed into Geffen and the album was shelved.
Fiction Plane returned to London, frustrated and angry which began to show itself in the new music they were writing, and their sound became schizophrenic; introspective, delicate and aggressive. Fiction Plane slowly found their place, somewhere altogether new; furious energy channeled into crafted songs and melodies that gave life to their much talked about lyrics.
The lyrics provide an insight into Joe Sumner’s disillusioned and brutally intimate view of the world.
This is exemplified by ‘American Standard’, the lead track on their EP ‘Bitter Forces and Lame Racehorses’, produced by Paul Corkett (The Cure, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Cooper Temple Clause) which was released in the UK in June 2005.
The band is currently in London doing pre-production on their first album for Geffen Records which is due in 2006.
